There are only 4 ingredients in these yummy, homemade goldfish-like crackers. In the real goldfish crackers, there are over 10 and several that I can't even pronounce... ammonium bicarobonte?
I don't mind buying snacks for Zoey (16 months old yesterday!) but if I can make it and have the time, I do.
I found this goldfish recipe on Weelicious and tried it out for the first time last weekend. Zoey loved them and so did my husband, Mike.
Here is what you'll need:
- 2 cups, grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup, whole wheat flour
- 1 Tbs, salt free seasonings of your choice (I used garlic powder, onion powder and a little lemon pepper)
- 6 Tbs, chilled unsalted butter
First, place the first three ingredients either in a bowl or a large food processor if you have it. I only have a small one so I did this next part by hand.
Roll out to about 1/4 of an inch thick on a floured surface.
I found these cutters at Michaels in the craft section (not the baking section).
It makes about two pans full.
Bake for approx. 9-10 minutes. The original recipe says to bake for 15-17 minutes but at 15 minutes my first batch was burnt! So 9 minutes was the magic number for my oven.
Be sure to check another kid-friendly snack out that Heidi whips up here, awesome zucchini bites - kids love them and we make sure they get their veggies in too!
